TAC Call for Proposals
Technology across the Curriculum (TAC) is a programmatic effort to
incorporate technology into the liberal arts curriculum. Through support
to faculty for course development and redesign, TAC promotes the use
of technology to enhance student learning in all subjects.
TAC has developed 10 information
technology goals and a clearly articulated process for incorporating
those goals into the undergraduate curriculum.
It achieves these goals by supporting two kinds of curriculum development
-- a regular call for proposals and special
targeted initiatives.
All faculty have an opportunity to participate in the TAC program
through an annual proposal process. An
RFP invites proposals that focus on specific courses and describe
technology-enhanced assignments that meet the learning goals for the
course. TAC also seeks proposals that address departmental-level IT
goals.
TAC also sponsors a number of targeted
initiatives annually to help fill important gaps. Special initiatives
have targeted IT skills such as image manipulation and databases.
The TAC administrators coordinate
teams of faculty, graduate students and instructional designers to
work on TAC projects. The TAC Advisory Committee
gives them input and helps set program goals.
The DoIT director and staff provide input concerning the ramifications
of the proposal for the IT support structure.
The funding
awarded to successful proposals varies depending on the size and scope of the
project. Funding may include a stipend for the faculty, support from a graduate
student technology associate, and money for hardware or software.
Faculty supported by TAC are asked to make a brief interim report
and to submit a final report. TAC requires copies of the redesigned
technology-enhanced assignments and revised syllabus. A brief description
of each project with sample assignments is incorporated into the project
page of the TAC website.
