Support
A key factor in the ultimate success of the Technology across the
Curriculum Program (TAC) will be the ability to deliver appropriate
and timely support to faculty and students. For faculty, this support
includes training in technology applications relevant to redesigned
assignments, individual consultations on instructional design, student
assistants to help with developing materials for projects, workshops
on assessment, and technology assistance through the first pilot offerings
of reworked courses.
For students, this support consists of ready access to instruction
in the technology skills they need to succeed in the TAC courses and
to computer labs where they can complete assignments and get help
as
The College of Arts and Sciences is working closely with the Department
of Instructional and Technology Support Services (DoIT)
to plan for this support. Support for faculty as outlined above is
provided by DoIT's Instructional Resource Center (IRC).
IRC also runs the Technology Assistants Program (TAP),
which trains and manages students who support TAP
Support for students is available through DoIT's Student Technology
Assistance and Resource Center (STAR).
Students can use the multiple STAR facilities to learn and practice
technology skills required by TAC assignments, thus freeing faculty
to focus on the disciplinary applications of technology in their
Since the first year of the TAC program, DoIT has participated in
the ongoing planning for the development of the TAC program. It worked
with the Dean and faculty of the College to help identify the ten
information technology learning goals for liberal arts students
which guide development of TAC projects. It also reviewed faculty
TAC proposals for the current year, providing a helpful second perspective
on the potential ramifications of proposed uses for information technology.
The College is currently working on a strategic plan for TAC that
can be implemented within the parameters of DoIT's support infrastructure
and mandate.
